Pivotal Game Goes to Host Haymakers, 3-1
|
Game was big. So was John Cole.
In leading Philadelphia to a crucial 3-1 victory over the Cardiff Alliance at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium today, the Philadelphia starter rose to the occasion, tossing 6.2 good innings and earning player of the game honors. Cole threw 6 innings of shutout ball as the Haymakers defended their home field to seize a - lead in the best-of- ACB Championship.
Cole, a native of Macon, Georgia, was dealing all game. He kept Cardiff hitters off-balance, while giving the Haymakers 6.2 quality innings. Cole threw 92 pitches, allowing 3 hits and striking out 4.
"We haven't stopped playing," Cardiff manager Fedele Sapia said. "We didn't get this far to give up."
The next game is set to be played Monday, October 30th, 1989 at Bute Park Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff. Slated to start are Everton Mackaness for Philadelphia and Hizkaias Tulun for Cardiff.
