Great Day for Flats -- 6 Hits
Thursday, August 20th, 1981
Even as a kid, Tyco Flats said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Golden Giants Stadium today, Flats showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 34-year-old second baseman had 6 hits in 7 at-bats for the Providence Steamrollers, helping his team knock off the Halifax Golden Giants by a score of 5-3.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today."
Tyco Flats singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Rafael Mendoza in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th, singled in the 13th and tripled in the 15th.
This season Flats has hit 8 home runs and posted a .341 batting average.
