Philadelphia Win Division Finals
Saturday, September 10th, 1983
The Philadelphia Haymakers took time to celebrate with the Philadelphia fans who stuck around after the game, following the team's Division Finals triumph over the Brooklyn Bums.
Members of the Haymakers hung around chatting, high-fiving and taking pictures with the Philadelphia fans in attendance at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium, long after the last pitch had been thrown in their 6-2 win to seal the series 4-2.
"We've got great fan support," said right fielder César García. "Whether we're at home or on the road, the fans support us. So we wanted to show them how important that is to us. Some Brooklyn fans that were there even congratulated us on the win."
For the series, García hit .360 with a .407 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 6 RBI and scored 8 runs.
Things weren't so cordial on the Bums side of things. Their clubhouse was closed to media after the game and all players and coaches quickly dressed and left the stadium after the end to their season.
The Philadelphia Haymakers will play against the Saint John Sasquatches in the next round. Saint John won their series against the Fredericton Salamanders 4 games to 2. The ACB Championship schedule will be announced after the Division Finals finishes.
