Sheriffs Prevail, as Division Finals Goes to the Wire
Wednesday, September 11th, 1991
Atlantic Coast Baseball pundits who figured the Division Finals between the Poughkeepsie Sheriffs and Philadelphia Haymakers would go the distance were right on the mark.
The two teams battled back and forth in a spirited series, with Poughkeepsie coming out on top thanks to a 4-3 win in the deciding game at Robert Boyd Memorial Stadium, to wrap things up 4-3.
"You get to the last game and anything can happen, so we're overjoyed to come out on top," said Sheriffs right fielder Juan Pérez, who was named series MVP.
For the series, Pérez had 9 hits for a .321 average. He had 2 home runs, 5 RBI and scored 7 runs.
The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs will play against the Halifax Golden Giants in the next round. Halifax won their series against the Saint John Sasquatches 4 games to 1. The ACB Championship schedule will be announced after the Division Finals finishes.
