3 Bombs for Nyles Lago
Saturday, September 14th, 1991
Nyles Lago brutalized the Halifax Golden Giants pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 9-2 victory at Sheriffs Ballpark. The Poughkeepsie Sheriffs first baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 3-for-5 with 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Too much Nyles Lago today," Golden Giants manager Anthony Puhl said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Nyles Lago hit a two-run home run off Gabriel Browning in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Louis Hutchinson in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Michael Richards in the 8th.
Lago is currently batting .255 with 37 home runs, 90 RBIs and 79 runs scored. He has 132 hits in 517 at-bats.
