Redbirds Halt Holt's Hit Streak Wednesday, July 31st, 1991 For 22 straight games, Dalton Holt tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 25-year-old Saratoga Springs Sunshine right fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Rochester Redbirds. The Redbirds held him hitless in 2 at-bats at Redbirds Ballpark today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 22. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Sunshine took the win by the score of 5-0. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." For the year Holt is batting .446 with 9 home runs. |
