Ovsienko Holds Portsmouth Scoreless Tuesday, July 16th, 1991 Before the game, Helge Ovsienko said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Phoenix Ballpark, the Scots pitcher whitewashed the Portsmouth Diamonds 9-0. "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Ovsienko said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count." The Edinburgh starter held Portsmouth scoreless, giving up 3 hits while registering 6 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk. "We didn't have very many good at-bats," Diamonds manager Tim Mabbitt said in his postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
