Patriots Come up Short of Playoffs
Tuesday, April 9th, 1991
It's a "gut-wrenching feeling," George Washington HS Patriots starting pitcher Tommy McDowell said, for the team to have gotten so close to a playoff berth, only to be eliminated in the waning days of the season. The club was officially eliminated from the postseason chase today.

The Patriots have missed the playoffs 34 times in their 80 years as a DC Metro Public Schools franchise. This playoff miss is the club's 2nd in a row, with their last postseason appearance coming in 1988. In the last 10 seasons, the Patriots have missed the playoffs 7 times. George Washington HS last won the Semi Finals in 1989.
