Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS's Canseco Takes Best Pitcher Prize

This past season was very special for Alejandro Canseco of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS Barons. He picked up 5 wins against only 2 losses and was chosen the winner of the 1991 DC Metro Public Schools Washington Post High School Pitcher of the Year.

The 17-year-old Barons ace fashioned a fine 1.39 ERA in 9 starts. He threw 64.2 innings, gave up 30 hits, 22 walks and held opponents to a .133 average. Canseco fanned 98 batters this season.

He received 14 first place votes out of a possible 28. Joseph Lewis of the Robert E Lee HS Lancers finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Claudio Magana of the Chantilly HS Chargers finished third with 6 first place votes.
