Ottenhof Raps Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS for 5 Hits
Saturday, March 30th, 1991
After a 5-hit effort to lead Walt Whitman HS's 7-4 victory over the Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS Barons, second baseman Jeroen Ottenhof told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the DC Metro Public Schools-level is really something special."
The 14-year-old player earned his accolades today at Vikings Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Barons.
"His swing is getting there," said Vikings skipper Gerhard Lehner, who spoke glowingly of Ottenhof after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jeroen did that to perfection today."
Jeroen Ottenhof singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
Thus far this season Ottenhof is hitting .314 with 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 37 hits in 118 at-bats and has played in 31 games.
