Handford Spins Shutout Thursday, August 18th, 1977 Ewan Handford pitched a strong game at Firebirds Ballpark today, blanking the Albuquerque Sky 8-0. Handford allowed no runs on 9 hits, totaled 10 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk. Phoenix manager Tom Broom said he could tell immediately it was going to be a good game for Handford. "Right from the start, you could see how economical he was," Broom said. "He threw a lot of strikes." Up to now Handford has recorded a record of 11-1.
