Harrisburg Advances to Round 2
Monday, September 9th, 1991
Jake Jones said he didn't even realize how well he had been playing in the Round 1 until he was shown his own statistics.
The Harrisburg Pirates first baseman put up a .800 average with 1 home runs, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, enough to earn him series MVP honors. It all added up to his Pirates advancing to the Round 2, with a 3-1 series win over the Hazelton Mafioso.
"I didn't really pay attention to the numbers or my stats at all as we went along," he said. "I'm just so focused on trying to help the team win, that's it."
The series victory had become official with a 3-0 triumph at Ballpark of Harrisburg. Even if Jones is not paying close attention to his stats, the rest of baseball certainly will be keeping an eye on him as the playoffs continue.
"I like to be under pressure and think I respond well to it," he said.
The Harrisburg Pirates don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Scranton Quakers - Lancaster Churns series. Lancaster leads the series 2 game to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
