Round 1 Goes the Distance, Portsmouth Prevails

In an exciting Round 1 that had its fair share of drama and intrigue, perhaps it is New England Baseball League fans who have come out the winner.
But on the field, the winners were the Portsmouth Pirates, who edged the Manchester Wolves 3-2 to advance to the Round 2.
Portsmouth won the final game by a 8-6 count to wrap up the series. Juan Díaz earned series MVP honors, by hitting .500 with a .588 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Portsmouth Pirates will play against the Newbury Port River Rats in the next round. Newbury Port won their series against the New London Widowmakers 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
