5 Hits for Pirates Maspons
Saturday, September 14th, 1991
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for António Maspons of the Portsmouth Pirates. Maspons went on a tear at Ballpark of Newberry Port and cracked hit after hit off Newbury Port pitching. When the dust settled on the diamond, the 33-year-old second baseman had a career 5-for-7 day and something he will long remember.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but I don't think I'll tell them we lost," he joked in the BNN postgame interview.
Despite Maspons's personal accolades, the Newbury Port River Rats walked off the field with the 11-10 win.
António Maspons singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th, doubled in the 10th, struck out in the 12th, walked in the 14th and singled in the 16th.
Maspons is hitting .300 this year with 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 36 hits in 120 at-bats, 18 walks and a .386 on-base percentage. Maspons has played in 39 games.
