Newport Wins Top Spot in Downer Division
Wednesday, September 4th, 1991
Let loose, Newport fans, your team has won the Downer Division.
The Newport Dragons have officially captured the crown, the 27th in franchise history.
"We've got a team that can do it all and we think do it just as well as anyone in the league," said reliever Jeff Rodríguez. "I hope no one is taking us lightly once the playoffs start."
Certainly the team's division crown will garner them a fair bit of respect, as the 50-14 record puts the club in position for the franchise's 13th Welsh Instructional League championship.
"You never get tired of being in the playoffs," said manager António Juárez. "This is what you play for."
