Salgado Strokes 6 Hits
Monday, August 13th, 1990
Walsall third baseman Javier Salgado added his name to the record books with a 6-hit spree at Walsall Grounds today, but found his special moment spoiled when the Exeter Griffins took a shootout win over the Lakers.
"I would have much preferred getting only a couple of hits and winning the game," he confessed to reporters afterward. "It's hard to go back into the clubhouse and celebrate a 6-hit game when you also lost."
Lakers skipper Carey Savery called Salgado's game "a once-in-a-lifetime moment."
"It's a shame the guy can't really enjoy it," he said. "It's also a shame what happened with our pitching today, but at least that we can try to fix."
Javier Salgado doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Yasser Nasser in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
Thus far this season Salgado has hit .388 with 4 home runs, 38 RBIs and scored 43 times.
